CommUNITY
The community surrounding Vancouver's skateboarding scene is one that seems rough around the edges from the outside, but is a palpable mix of friendliness, loyalty, supportiveness, and charm beneath the surface. The skate community is an interconnected web that extends far beyond the riders themselves. Many businesses have built a foundation in Vancouver as part of this scene and it only continues to grow. The City of Vancouver has also started to integrate skateboarding into their long-term plans. It is now being recognized as a sport and the Vancouver Parks Board feels the need to foster a relationship with skaters as it has with other sports. Skateboarding will also be a sport at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, so the community will continue to evolve as it reaches a new audience.

The City
We'd like to expand the demographic of skateboarding because when you look around The Plaza it's a lot of guys between 14 and 40. We would really like to see a lot of younger kids and girls get involved...with Canada going to the Olympics in 2020, we want to foster a place where people can start training super young.
